Not flashy, but arguably among the most joyful and sociable of birds, house sparrows carry a quiet symbolism of home, community and resilience. For me, they are the unmistakable soundtrack of spring and summer: Chattering outside windows on sunny mornings and flitting through hedgerows.
Perhaps it’s my age, or perhaps it’s a response to an increasingly uncertain world, but I am drawn more and more to the simple beauty of the nature on our doorstep: These small, often overlooked birds feel quietly enchanting. Unassuming at first glance, yet full of character and life.
This collection is my response to that feeling. A celebration of the everyday. Of birds that are not rare or exotic, but full of personality and presence. A gentle reminder to notice what’s already around us.
Painted in my loose painterly style, using a soothing heritage green palette layered with my signature distressed gold. Subtle flicks of gold catch the light, elevating these familiar birds.

The beautiful shift of gold
Please note: As with many of my artworks, the gold in this piece is not above 23-carat . Some areas have deliberately left unsealed with the hope that these may evolve over time; potentially developing soft shades of patina and aged gold. This transformation is intentional - a living element that allows the piece to grow and change only with the collector. The resulting patina is a celebrated feature, making each artwork truly unique.
