“Pacific Oysters, Exe”
This piece is a celebration of the ocean, love and the quiet luxuries of the place we are lucky enough to call home.
"Pacific Oysters, Exe"
Pacific oysters thrive in the rich, tidal currents here in Devon and their shells lie scattered like treasures on the shoreline.
There is a special kind of luxury in oysters: The simple pleasure of sitting by the water with the delicacies our ocean has to offer. It’s a quiet celebration of place and an appreciation for the ocean’s extraordinary ability to create something so luxurious. This piece will resonate with anyone who loves the ocean, oysters and shellfish or wants an original piece that has connotations of love and romance (for which oysters are inextricably linked)!
In this work, each oyster shell has been recreated in paint, layer by layer, just as the living oyster builds its home from the movement of sea and silt. The seaside chalky whites, soft greys, and subtle coastal tones are familiar, but the painterly style provides a contemporary take. The piece is thoughtfully framed in a contemporary grey tray that echoes the colours of the mudflats and the wooden pontoons above the water.
