This evocative work entitled “Grace in the midst” captures a lone and ethereal swan emerging from unsettled clouds. The bird, mid-flight, is a quiet metaphor for resilience and renewal, a figure moving steadily through uncertainty, finding clarity as it breaks into lighter skies.
The subtle drips of paint suggest rainfall, yet they also catch the light, hinting at a quiet promise of new beginnings. This interplay reflects how even the heaviest clouds are transient. In time, they part, offering a changed horizon and the space to reemerge, with a grace and calm we might not have possessed before.
This painting marks a one-off shift from my usual work, built on softer neutrals and entirely without gilding. It stands as a one-off piece, created after a conversation with a dear friend whose life had altered unexpectedly. It’s a piece about resilience and ability to retain strength, beauty and dignity through difficult times. Her story lingered with me: a reminder that even through the heaviest shifts, there is movement forward, and often, a return to light.
