“Waiting in the Wings", an extra-large canvas featuring one of nature’s most captivating and spiritual night creatures; the barn owl in mid-flight.
 
This work is a true statement in both scale and detail, incorporating the most extensive use of gilding I have ever undertaken. The sheer size of the canvas presented a significant challenge, with the gilding, in my signature ‘distressed’ style, taking my imagination on quite a roller-coaster! The expanse of gold allowed for the introduction of texture, which catches and reflects the light, creating a dynamic sense of movement and individuality.
 
Birds so often embody quiet patience, waiting with grace and purpose. This sentiment inspired the title: "Waiting in the Wings".
